    Rakuten TV mounts global rollout across dozens of new markets

    RAKUTEN TV has launched its on-demand platform in dozens of new markets, boosting its presence especially across the Nordics, eastern and central Europe. In total, it has entered thirty new countries and tripled its presence across Europe. The VoD service has partnered with smart TV makers SAMSUNG, LG and PHILIPS to equip more living rooms with its offering and the ability to access it via a dedicated remote control button. It hopes to drive consumer engagement by introducing 8k resolution content later this year. Rakuten is investing in original programming but, unlike its competitors, operates on a rent or buy, rather than subscription basis.

    Metcalfe’s launches on-pack promo with Rakuten TV

    METCALFES and RAKUTEN have teamed up for an on-pack promotion on Metcalfe's popcorn products. Throughout autumn customers who buy packs of Metcalfe's popcorn will have access to a film code for Rakuten's on-demand viewing service. The promotion is intended to increase consumer interest in film and cinema.
