    Papa John’s ‘aggressively’ resetting ads and marketing after Papa blamed for sales slump

    PAPA JOHN's is planning to clean up its brand after a turbulent year which saw its founder embroiled in a race row and reluctantly stand down. John Schnatter departed in July following his clash with NFL athletes in 2017 and use of the N-word in a media training call. This resulted in an exodus of its marketing and creative agencies and a sales decline between 7% and 10% for the year as a whole. Papa John's has hired Nimbus as its multicultural agency of record in an effort to change its culture, as well as promoting Victoria Russell to chief of diversity, equity and inclusion. The pizza chain will also work with Endeavor Global Marketing to help chart its course back to growth.

    Papa John's founder Schnatter resigns over N-word use

    PAPA JOHN's founder John Schnatter has left his position as chairman after using the N-word in a conference call. Schnatter used the racial slur during a media training session between Papa John executives and a marketing agency called Laundry Service in May. A new chairman is set to be appointed in the coming weeks.
