    GLAXOSMITHKLINE has appointed incumbent agencies PHD and MEDIACOM to handle its £1.1bn global media buying and planning business following a competitive pitch. The account includes the former Novartis vaccine business, which the company acquired in March. It is understood not to include the generic pharmaceuticals division of Novartis, Sandoz. Discussions are still taking place, but MediaCom is expected to retain the European business, while PHD will retain the US element of the account.
