    COVID-19: John Lewis announces Birmingham store among eight to close permanently

    JOHN LEWIS & PARTNERS is permanently closing eight stores putting 1,300 jobs at risk. The stores affected were already 'financially challenged' even before the pandemic struck. The stores marked for closure include department stores in Birmingham and Watford, travel stores at HEATHROW AIRPORT and London St Pancras station and At Home shops in Croydon, Swindon, Tamworth and Newbury. Nine John Lewis stores will reopen on 30 July.

    COVID-19: John Lewis plans ‘phased’ re-opening

    JOHN LEWIS has announced it will reopen its stores from 15 June in line with the government's lifting of lockdown restrictions. The retailer is testing changes to cleaning, visit numbers, reduced entrances and distancing signage with a phased reopening. Beauty services will be limited, while catering and fitting rooms will be closed. Returned items will be handled separately from other stock. 

    NEXT is also planning a phased reopening, started with large out-of-town stores.
