Carwow, Motorline and Autorama adverts banned by the ASA

THE ADVERTISING STANDARDS AUTHORITY has banned 'misleading' adverts from CARWOW, MOTORLINE and AUTORAMA. Carwow came under fire for a now banned TV ad which claimed that shoppers could save £3,600 on average on a FORD MONDEO if purchased through its site. Two complaints were made when it was revealed Carwow was selling the model for £23,590 against an RRP of £24,195. Motorline rolled out a direct marketing campaign claiming it was selling a TOYOTA C-HR model for £22,491, but a consumer was unable to purchase the advertised car at Motorline's Bromsgrove branch. The branch was banned from using the campaign unless it could substantiate the claims it contained. Autorama had a campaign banned for failing to properly explain that it was a third-party finance broker, and for misleading consumers about whether they would need to pay a deposit.
