    COVID-19: Boots to cut 4,000 jobs and close stores after dramatic fall in shopper numbers

    BOOTS is cutting 4,000 jobs, including roles at its head office and store teams and shutting 48 opticians outlets. The company said it was accelerating a restructuring plan after sales at its main Boots outlet fell by 72% and sales at BOOTS OPTICIAN dived 48% during lockdown. Boots was allowed to continue to trade during lockdown but more than 100 larger stores in city centres, stations and airports closed. Boots said online sales had increased by 78% during lockdown and it would be investing more into online and digital services in future. It will reduce the number of staff at its Nottingham head office by a fifth and would also be cutting some deputy and assistant manager, beauty adviser and customer service posts in its stores and opticians.

    ISBA names Just Eat chief Peter Duffy as next president

    JUST EAT's chief customer officer and acting chief executive officer Peter Duffy, who is due to join MONEYSUPERMARKET as CEO in September, has been appointed to the position of president of ISBA. He takes over the role immediately from BOOTS chair Elizabeth Fagan.
