    Asda and Co-op donate millions to food bank charities

    ASDA and CO-OP have announced they will donate food to charities to support vulnerable people during the coronavirus outbreak. Asda will donate £5m to FARESHARE and the TRUSSEL TRUST, and over the coming months give over 3,000 charities access to free food. Co-op has also donated £1.5m to FareShare. Both retailers are opening at select times for NHS staff and health workers, whilst Co-op has announced special opening hours to help vulnerable customers shop, and Asda has revised opening hours to allow time to clean and restock stores.

    Aldi, Asda and Lidl on hunt for 16,000 workers to help keep shelves stocked

    ALDI, ASDA and LIDL are recruiting 16,000 workers to help restock shelves as people panic buy amid the coronavirus outbreak. Aldi is creating 9,000 jobs, Asda 5,000 and Lidl 2,500. Aldi's recruitment drive is made up of 5,000 fixed-term positions and 4,000 permanent roles. Stores are looking to recruit people from sectors facing loss of business such as foodservice and travel. Aldi has also limited purchases of nappies and paper products to two per person.
