Asda's Christmas ad brings festive cheer to town dubbed 'a laughing stock'

ASDA is releasing its Christmas ad featuring a town once home to Britain's worst Christmas tree. Launching on 2 November, the two-minute ad tells the story of two children who spread Christmas magic throughout the town of Tyldesley, Wigan. It was created by AMV BBDO and will debut during ITV's The X Factor, following a takeover of ITV weather the night before to tease the spot. Asda is aiming to 'increase the emotional storytelling' in this year's campaign, while also promoting its Extra Special product range. Asda has kept the same level of marketing spend for this year's Christmas ad, but will release three spots compared with four last year. It shot 65 pieces of content that will run on social media channels including Snapchat and INSTAGRAM, as well as food guides on PINTEREST.

Asda has also created a digital and physical storybook about the children in the ad, called Santa's Leftover Magic. Ten per cent of every book sold will go the the retailer's Fight Hunger, Create Change programme.
