    American Express moves global creative into Mcgarrybowen

    MCGARRYBOWEN has picked up global brand creative duties for AMERICAN EXPRESS. The account was moved from OGILVY & MATHER without a pitch. O&M will remain on the brand's digital roster in charge of international execution.

    Spend Analysis

    Across all Finance companies in the Top 6,000, spend grew healthily by 5.6% on Q3 and 2.9% year on year to £233m. No one company contributed more to this rise than the highest spender in the category, AMERICAN EXPRESS, whose spend rocketed to £18.2m in Q4, up from just £5.2m a year previously. Most of the spend went towards advertising the company’s Nectar card (£9m) and credit cards (£7.6m). American Express’ rejuvenated spend was enough to knock COMPARETHEMARKET.COM owner BGL group off the top spot even without the latter having cut its own spend by 16% on the last period. BGL Group's spend remains up year on year, however, with the company spending just £9.9m in Q4 2015.
