    Aldi to extend plastic-free fresh veg trial

    ALDI has announced that it will extend its trial campaign to remove plastic wrapping from its loose vegetables. The trial, which started in Scotland earlier this year, is to extend to England next month. It could avoid increasing food waste and over 100 tonnes of plastic a year if rolled out across all stores in the UK. Furthermore, Aldi has pledged to ensure all of its own-label packaging will be recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2022. The retailer aims to reduce plastic packaging by 25 per cent by the end of 2023.

    Aldi to replace plastic for paper & biodegradable bags from July

    ALDI has announced that it will trial replacing plastic bags with biodegradable and paper ones in stores across the UK. Half of its stores will offer paper bags and the other half biodegradable plastic, with the most popular choice made permanent. The trial will begin in July.
